Congratulations to the Town of High Level and their Fire Chief Rodney Schmidt for winning this year’s Alberta Emergency Management Achievement Award.
The award was given for the development of a new Regional Incident Management Team. The team can be deployed at a moment’s notice to support emergency operations, such as wildfire suppression and response within the region.
The team is the result of cooperation between 14 municipalities to provide support for local crews during large-scale disasters. It’s a great example of strong regional cooperation at the municipal level.
AUMA has information to help municipalities with their emergency response planning as part of the Emergency Management and Disaster Response toolkit on the AUMA website. Resources and other examples of how municipalities are working together can be found in the Intermunicipal Cooperation toolkit.
